There are some stories that begin with an idea, and others that begin with a feeling.
No Pack, No Fear began with a simple question:
What happens when a frightened young wolf loses everything, only to discover that family can sometimes be found in the most unexpected place?
I am excited to officially introduce the newest series from Big Dawg Books LLC—a sweeping, emotional saga about courage, survival, family, and the lasting connection between people and the natural world.
The Beginning of the Journey
The first novel in the series is:
No Pack, No Fear
Book One: Ashes of Willow Ridge
For generations, the Carter family has called Willow Ridge Valley home—a place shaped by long winters, mountain forests, hardworking families, and a deep respect for the land.
Fifteen-year-old Emma Carter has grown up on her family’s farm alongside her father, Jack, learning that patience, kindness, and responsibility matter just as much as strength.
But when a devastating wildfire tears through the surrounding mountains, everything changes.
Separated from her family and left alone in a world of smoke and ash, a young black wolf begins a desperate fight for survival. When Emma discovers the injured pup near the edge of Carter Farm, she and her father make a compassionate choice that will connect their lives to the wolf’s journey in ways none of them could have imagined.
As the seasons pass, the frightened pup grows into a powerful wolf named Shadow. She never becomes a pet, and Emma never tries to make her one. Instead, their bond develops through patience, distance, trust, and mutual respect.
But danger has not disappeared from Willow Ridge.
As strange events begin unfolding across the valley and threats move closer to the Carter family’s home, Emma learns that some promises are never spoken aloud. They are proven through the choices we make when the people—and places—we love are in danger.
Ashes of Willow Ridge is a story about survival, healing, courage, and the extraordinary impact one act of kindness can have across generations.
More Than a Story About a Wolf
Although Shadow is at the heart of the series, No Pack, No Fear is not simply a collection of wolf stories.
It is a generational family saga.
Readers will grow alongside Emma as she moves from her teenage years into adulthood. They will watch Carter Farm change through the seasons, experience the joys and losses that shape Willow Ridge Valley, and follow the legacy passed from one generation to the next.
The wolves will always remain wild.
They are never treated as pets, magical creatures, or superheroes. Their behavior is grounded in nature, instinct, family, survival, and the freedom to choose their own path.
That was very important to me while creating this series. I wanted the relationship between Emma and Shadow to be powerful without requiring either of them to become something they are not.
Emma does not own Shadow.
Shadow does not belong to the Carter family.
They simply learn how to share the same valley, respect one another’s boundaries, and recognize that family can sometimes exist without possession.
Why I Created No Pack, No Fear
I wanted to create a series that older teens and adults could experience together—a story with suspense and adventure, but also one with patience, heart, and meaning.
At its core, No Pack, No Fear explores the values that matter most to me:
- Family and the people who stand beside us
- Courage in the face of uncertainty
- Compassion for animals and the natural world
- The importance of earning trust
- Healing after loss
- Respecting the land we inherit
- Leaving something meaningful for the next generation
I also wanted Willow Ridge Valley to feel like a real place rather than simply a background for the action.
Readers will come to know the Carter farmhouse, the old red barn, the orchard, Cedar Creek, the Memory Stone, and the ridge overlooking the valley. They will experience quiet mornings, changing seasons, winter snow, autumn harvests, distant howls, and the warm glow of the farmhouse at dusk.
My hope is that by the final page, readers will not feel as though they merely read about Willow Ridge.
I hope they feel as though they lived there for a while.

The Beginning of a Larger Saga
Ashes of Willow Ridge is only the beginning.
The No Pack, No Fear series will continue following Emma Carter, the Carter family, and the wolves whose lives become connected to Willow Ridge Valley.
The characters will age.
The land will change.
New generations will arrive.
Old lessons will continue to matter.
Through it all, one image will remain at the heart of the series:
The Carter farmhouse glowing at dusk.
The ridge above the valley.
And somewhere in the distance, a wolf standing watch.
Welcome to Willow Ridge

I am incredibly proud of the world, characters, and heart behind this series, and I cannot wait for readers to meet Emma, Jack, and Shadow.
I hope Ashes of Willow Ridge reminds readers that courage does not mean living without fear, that kindness can change the direction of a life, and that the strongest families are not always the ones we are born into.
Sometimes they are the ones we find.
Welcome to Willow Ridge Valley.
Welcome to the No Pack, No Fear series.
